What is a ration card?
The identity document issued to families by the Food and Supplies Department of the government is called a ration card. This ration card contains complete details of the family members including their names and ages.

Different types of ration cards:
The government is issuing three types of ration cards according to the annual income and financial status of each family. What are the three ration cards? Which card is applicable to whom? Let us find out in the following steps.
- BPL Card:
BPL card is issued to families below the poverty line whose annual income should not exceed Rs. 1,20,000/-.
- APL Card:
APL card is given to families belonging to the middle and upper classes above the poverty line. Generally, this card is given to families whose annual income exceeds Rs. 1,20,000/-.
This card will be applicable to those who are paying income tax, families with their own 4-wheeler and government employees
- Antyodaya Annabhagya Card:
Antyodaya Annabhagya cards are given to families living in extreme poverty, single women, the elderly, and the unemployed.

Who is eligible to apply for a new ration card?
- Those with a medical emergency:

- Families belonging to Specially Vulnerable Tribal Communities:

Who can make corrections in the ration card?

Eligibility criteria required to apply for new BPL card
- The applicant should be a permanent resident of Karnataka.

- None of the family members should own a 4 wheeler.
- Applicant should not be paying any income tax.
- Annual income of the family should not exceed 1,20,000/-.

- Passport size photograph of all family members
- Families requiring ration card for medical emergency must provide medical certificate from government hospital.

How to apply for a new ration card:

How to apply online:
- Families who want to apply online should visit the official website of the Food Department.
- Click on the e-Services link on the home page.
- Click on the e-Ration Card menu link on the left and click on the Request for New Ration Card link.
- First, enter the Aadhaar number of the head of the family and confirm with the OTP received on the mobile. Then enter the Aadhaar card numbers of all the family members and confirm with the OTP received on the mobile.
- Upload all the necessary documents given above.
- Make sure that all the details filled and all the documents uploaded are correct and click on the submit button and submit the application.
Offline Application Procedure:
- Families wishing to apply offline should visit their nearest Gram One, Karnataka One or Common Service Center.
- Provide the Aadhaar card, caste and income certificate and electricity bill of all family members to the staff there.
- The head of the family and all members should also complete the biometric process.
- Enter the OTP received on the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card.
- After the application submission is complete, the staff there will give you a receipt with the application number.
