What is the Pashu Bhagya Scheme?

The ‘Pashu Bhagya’ scheme is a popular livestock development and self-employment initiative implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Karnataka. Of this ₹1.2 lakh loan amount, farmers belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) will receive a 50% subsidy, while general category farmers will receive a 25% subsidy.

Short-term loan facility at zero interest:

Eligible farmers can avail a loan of ₹50,000 at 0% interest from cooperative banks to cover the cost of feed and daily maintenance for the livestock they are rearing under the ‘Pashu Bhagya’ scheme.

Livestock insurance subsidy:

Farmers who are active members of milk producers’ cooperative societies will receive government assistance to pay insurance premiums for up to five animals to ensure their livestock’s safety.

Compensation for accidental death:

If the sheep or goats of registered shepherds die accidentally, an ex-gratia payment of ₹5,000 per animal will be provided under the ‘Shepherd Safety Scheme’ (Kurigahi Surakshate Yojane).
